Math 2204/05

Today students worked on the research for their independent study project. The rest of this week will be spent on this research so students should come prepared for that. Next week we will begin review for the final exam. 

Today was the test on unit 6.

Today we finished unit 6 with the applications of the sine and cosine laws. Please do the practice problems on page 237 and 238 of the workkbook in preparation for your test. The assignment on the sine and cosine laws is due on Monday. The test on this unit will be on Wednesday.

Today students worked on the second assignment for this unit, on the Sine Law and the Cosine Law. This assignment is due on Monday, May 7th and the test will be next Wednesday, May 9th. 

Today we covered the cosine law on page 233-236. For homework please do #34-40 on page 235-236. Remember that the assignment on triangle area is due on Monday.

Today we covered the Ambiguous Case of the Sine Law on page 230-232. For homework please do #30-33 on page 232. The assignment that was given out on Monday on triangle area is due next Monday, April 30th. No late assignments will be accepted. The test on unit 6 will be the week after next.

Today we covered the Sine Law on page 228-229. For homework do #28-29 (a and c) on page 229. The assignment on triangle area is due on Monday. We will finish this chapter next week so be prepared for a test the following week.

Today we covered Azimuths on pages 225-227. For homework please do #27 on page 227. Also, your assignment from yesterday is due next Monday.

Today we reviewed finiding the area of a triangle. An assignment on this topic was distributed and must be handed in by next MONDAY! If you did not receive a copy you need to some by and pick one up. They are in the out folder with your names on them. No late assignments will be accepted. 

Today's trivia question is as follows: You have been invited to a number costume party where numbers are in disguise. You are first approached but a mysterious composite number who wears a pink panther costume. This romatntic lady tells you that she is a multiple of 11. She also tells you that she is the sum of the first four factorials (given that the first factorial is 1!) Which number is she?

A bonus mark will be awared to the first person to email the correct answer to me. Only one person will receive a bonus mark for this question. Stay tuned for more questions.

Today we covered area of a triangle using trigonometry. For homework please do #17a,18a,19,22,24 on page 223-224 of the workbook. 2205 students should also do #25 and 26.

Today students worked on the homework from the first two topics of chapter 6: pythagorean theorem and primary trig functions. Please make sure this is complete and that you have checked all your answers for next class.

Today we covered the three primary trig ratios. For homework begin page 217-219 #1,3,5,6a,c,i,7b,d,f,h,8a,c. Time will be given tomorrow in class to complete this work.

Today was the test on unit 5.

Today students worked on the review assignment for chapter 5. This assignment is due on Tuesday. There will be a test on this unit on Monday, March 26th.

Today we finished the last of chapter 5 on solving trig equations using radians. This material was only for 2205 students. For homework do #32-34 on page 208, every third letter.

Today we covered radian measure on pages 202-204. For homework 2204 students should do #27,28,29 on page 204 and 2205 students should do #27,28 and 30 on page 204. All assignments are due tomorrow.

Today we covered solving trig equations on pages 196 to 200. For homework 2204 students should do #22,23,25 on page 199-200 and 2205 students should do #22,24,26 on page 199-200.

Today students worked on completing their assignment on Trig Identities. This assignment, and any other outstanding assignments must be in by Thursday in order to be counted for the upcoming report card. Any outstanding assignments after Thursday will be given a mark of zero.

Chapter 5 assignment #1 was due today. Students used today's class to work on Assignment #2 which is due by Monday. 

Today we covered verifying trig identities. As an assignment students are to complete the following problems in the workbook and hand them in. 2204 students do #17,18&20 on page 194-195, and 2205 students do #17,19&21 on page 194-195. The deadline for this assignent is next Monday. Students are reminded that the assignment on rational functions is past due and must be submitted next class (Thursday) 

Today we covered trig identities on pages 189-193. For homework do #13-16 on pages 190-193. 

Today we covered adding and subtracting rational expressions. For homework do #10,11,12 (every third letter) on page 188.

Today we covered multiplying and dividing rational expressions. For homework please do #185-186 #8,9 (every 3rd letter). You can also complete the assignment on factoring. This assignment is due on Friday.

Today we covered simplifying rational expressions on pages 182-183. For homework please do #7 (every third letter) on page 183.

Today was the test on Unit 4.

Today we reviewed for the test on unit 4 which will take place on Monday.

Today we covered (for 2205 students only) pages 167 - 169. For homework 2205 students should do #44-46 on page 170. Remember that the test on this unit is next Monday.

Today we covered solving trig equations on an unrestricted domain (page 165-166). For homework please do every second letter of #42-43 on page 166. The test on this unit will be Monday, Feb 20th. There are three assignments for this unit: Radicals, Special Angles, Trig Expressions & Equations. Some people have yet to hand in any of these. All assignments must be submitted by next Wednesday, Feb 15th.

Today we covered solving trig equations algebraically (pages 160-164). For homework do #40-41 on page 164, do every second letter. The assignments on radicals and special angles are due by Friday at the latest. 

Today we covered solving equations graphically. For homework please do#36 on page 154 and #39 on page 159.

Today we covered function notation and evaluating trig expressions graphically. For homework do #32-35 on page 152. Reminder that there will be a brief quiz on evaluating trig expressions with special angles next class and that some of you still owe me your radical assignments.

Today we continued with the notes and examples on simplifying trigonometric expressions. For homework please do #29-30 (29-31 for 2205 students) on page 149, the middle column only. We will have a short quiz on this material next week. 

Today we covered converting degrees and minutes and special angles on page 142-147.  For homework please do #23a,e,24a,e on page 142 and #28c,g,k,o on page 147.

There was no class today because of the Arrupe lecture.

Today we covered the introduction to trigonometry found on page 136 to 141. For homework please do #17-19 on page 139 and #21-22 on page 141.

Today we covered dividing radicals. For homework 2205 students should do #11-13 on page 133 and 2205 students should do every second letter in #11-16 on pages 133 and 135.

Today we covered multiplying radicals on pages129-131. For homework please do page 128 #3ae, 4ac, and page 130-121 #6bfin, 7behk, 8behk, 9be, 10be.

Today we reviewed unit 3. Tomorrow we will go over the exam format and we will use Thursdays class as a tutorial. 

Today we reviewed the second half of unit 1. A set of review sheets that covers all the material for the exam was handed out. These are for your own purposes only, they are not to be handed in.

Today we reviewed the first half of unit 1. For extra practice on today's topics please see pages 24 and 39 in the workbook. 

Today we began chapter 4 with a review of radicals, simplifying radicals, and adding/subtracting radicals. This is the last of the new material for the semester. We will begin reviewing for the exam on Friday.

Today was the test on Unit 3.

Today we reviewed for Friday's test. Please have your assignments in by 8:45 tomorrow morning.

Today we covered the last section on applications of trig functions, found on pages 119-120. For homework please do #62-64 on page 120 for 2204 students and #62-65 for 2205 students. Assignment #5 is due tomorrow and the test on unit 3 will be this Friday.

Today we covered finding the equation of a cosine function. This material is found on page 115-118. For homework please do #52a,c,e, 55a,c,e,k,l, 56a,c,e,57a,c,e,k on page 116-118.

Today we covered graphing y = cos x using the five point method. There will be a test on this unit next Friday, November 25th. For homework please do #46-51 on page 113-114.

Today we covered graphing y=cosx (pages 107-109). For homework please do #41,43,45 on page 110 of the workbook. Please have assignment #4 in on Monday if you haven't handed it in yet.

Today we covered finding the equation of a graph. This can be found on pages 103-104 in the workbook. For homework please do #37-39 on page 105-106. Remember that your assignment on periodic functions is due tomorrow.

Today we covered graphing sine functions using the 5 point method. For homework please do #29, 31,32c,e, and 34 on page 100-102 in the workbook. 

Today we worked on an assignment on periodic functions. This covers chapter 3 up to page 94. The assignment is available on SBC net for those who were absent and is due on Thursday, November 10th. 

Today we covered the ferris wheel model and the introduction to periodic and sinusoidal functions on pages 72-76. For homework please do # 5-8 on pages 73-76.

Today we began the introduction to periodic functions on pages 68-71. For homework do #1-4 on page 70-71.

Today was the test on Matrices. If you were absent you will write this test on Monday.

Today we continued working on the assignment. Please finish for homework and hand it in as soon as you're done. If you can get it to me by Thursday morning I'll mark it by the end of the day so you can have it back to study for your test on Friday.

Today we reviewed for the test on Thursday. This test covers the sections on matrices. We also began an in-class assignment: page 55-59 #62,63,66,68 anf #6 on page 62. We will continue to work on this assignment tomorrow in class.

Today we covered finding the equation of a parabola. For homework please do #64,66,68 on page 58-59. This finishes the chapter so we will have a test on the second half of the unit next Thursday.

Today we covered solving systems using matrices. For homework please do #60-63 on page 54-55.

Today we covered the identity and inverse matrices. For homework please do #56-58 on pages 50-52.

Today we began the section on matrices. For homework please do #45 on page 40 and #46-47 on page 42. The test on the first half of the unit will be on Monday.

The test for tomorrow has been postponed! Instead we'll be doing an assignment on the first half of unit 1.

Test on Wednesday! Please practice solving a system of 3 equations. And remember that there is a math tutorial during tomorrow's tag.

Today we covered solving a system of three equstions and 3 unknowns. For homework please do #36 on page 34.

Today we covered graphing points and planes in 3D (pages 25-26). For homework please do # 31-33 & 35 on page 27-29. Quiz on Tuesday!

Today the class worked on solving by substitution and elimination. No new material covered. Quiz on these topics scheduled for Tuesday.
