Math

Today we finished review for our test tomorrow. We worked on review questions that will be similar to thos eon tomorrow's test. I reminded the students to look over those questions as review! Happy Studying!!

Math

Today we finished the unit by working on word problems. These word problems all had 1 extra step required to solve. It was important that the students read the questions carefully and came up with a plan to solve them properly. I referenced the students to a chat which remains up in the class at all times so that they do not rush through a problem. The reading of the problem carefully is the most crucial part to solving these questions.

Also today, I gave each student some review sheets to use as a study aid. It simply provides extra questions for them or for you to complete with them to help for Wednesday's test. I will not correct these in class but am more than happy to help or correct if needed, just come see me!

Science

We completed Chater 7 today (it was a short chapter). Once again we discussed homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures and how they differ from each other. We looked at ways to discover the difference and at what properties makes them different. We discussed these and took down notes.I set a date for the test on Chapters 7 and 8 to be Wednesday, May 30th. I know it is a ways away but I figured I's give plenty of notice if I know the date!

Math

Today we began division with decimals. I reviewed division first and I was impressed with what they remembered. We worked through examples and used estimation as a way of knowing where to place the decimal place after dividing. We discussed examples as a whoel group and individually. I assigned 3 homework questions but we had 15 minutes at the end of the day to work on them. I had time to get to any student who had a questions to help clear up and division struggles. We wil continue this tomorrow!

Science

Today we took advantage of the nice day and went out for reading and discussion. We continued to discuss mixtures vs pure substances. We looked at hetrogeneous and homogeneous mixtures and will continue with them tomorrow. To end the class, we watched a Bill Nye video to help illustrate how small molecules and atoms really are. This was done in hopes to gain a greater concept of the small size of particles and how this can affect detecting a pure substance from a homogeneous mixture.

Math

Today we finished discusing multiplication of decimals. I reinforced the fact that the students need to use the methos od multiplication that is most comfortable for them. We went through several examples both individually and as a class. I ended with a question on the board to complete for homework.

Science/French

Today I simply took 10 minutes to return and discuss the test from last week in Science. French followed, where we continued to work on our relay races. They should be ready to present on Monday or Tuesday.

Math

Today we reviewed the lessons on multiplying and estimating. The students who were at band did not participate in the review, however they do all have the worksheet which they can use for extra help if needed! We then went on to do multiplication with decimals that were not money amounts. It is the same process as multiplication with money, but can involve more digits after the decimals. Both methods can still be used.

French

We are almost ready to present our relay races and should be completed them next class!

Math

Today we did 2 things. I first gave back and reviewed last week's Math test. We then continued to work with multiplying decimla (money amounts). We once again reviewed both ways, and I encouraged the students to use which ever method is most comfortable! We ended the class by doing some individual work which is to be completed for homework if not finished!

Thursday, May 3rd

Math

Today we began the new unit on multiplying and dividing decimals. We discussed strategies today for estimation. Estimation can be a good way to check to see if any answer is reasonable. We learned 3 ways which can all be useful however they should be comfortable using one of those strategies. We then went into multiplying which went well and we discussed 2 ways to multiply. Again, they should be comfortable multiplying one of the two ways. Which is ever is best for their math skills is best!

French

We continued to work on our relay races today. We willl be finishing them in the coming days!

Science

Today we reviewed the first 2 sections of Chapter 6 that we completed before the break. We then began section 6.3 where we discussed the difference of temperature vs heat. We discussed how they were similar but completely different. We will continue next class with more discussion on specific heat capacity and how it effects our land/sea breezes. We also set a test for next Thursday, May 3rd. It will be on Chapter 6.

Math - Today we built on our previous lessons but took in one step further by now compaing/ordering improper fractions and mixed numbers. We worked in pairs on an orderign activity where it was important for them to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers as they are the easiest to compare. We will continue to work on this same activity tomorrow! If there is confusion with conversion, the students are more than welcome to come meet with me so I can help!!

Have a great evening!!

I finally got in the classroom today after Easter break! We picked up right we we left off 2 weeks ago!

Math - Today we took the period to review what we completed in Chapter 7 up to the Easter break. To summarize, we reviewed improper fractrions, mixed numbers, how to convert from IF to MN and how to convert from MN to IF. It was important for us to take the time to recap so we can move on next class. I have schedule a test for next Tuesday May 1st (the projected time is 10:40). We only have 2 lessons left to complete whcih simply build on what we have already learned and do no introduce any major concepts.

French - Today I returned the magazines they completed and I was so pleased with the work produced! We then went on to discuss relay races so that starting next class, we will be creating our own to present. This will be a good written and spoken activity!

I hope everyone had a great break and are looking forward to the 2 months of work (and fun) ahead!
